CoR Launcher

Guys, we are finally ready to announce that the CoR Launcher is ready!

All you'll have to do is install and run it, this way, you'll never have to download many gigs of the game each time, and you'll also get quick bug fixes. This is some more interesting information to keep in mind:

The installer does not install the entire game, so they have to let the patcher do its thing. It is run with administrators so they can install in program files if they want, and write the uninstall information to the registry.

For now, they have to manually hit check for updates to get new versions. That's all I can think of at the moment. Oh, and if you have any problems I need the debug log, which can be done by pressing the settings button and then pressing generate debug log.

And if Windows Defender complains, don't worry, I'm not trying to mine bitcoin with your PCs. Thanks to Darth Falcon for making CoR the first game with a launcher!

What are you waiting for? Go and install it!

i have no exe.file how you fix tha

(1 edit)

so for some reason i have no exe. file

never mind my stupid firewall is deleating it

How do i install new versions of the game without losing progress? I run the game on andriod and after seeing i was 2 versions behind i tried lookin for a way to install the latest, couldnt find out how, and uninstalled the game version i was using and installed the latest, thus losing all my progress and saves.

I noticed that it picks a new place to install the game. So even though I already have it installed with the Itch.io app it starts over. Maybe that's why others are having trouble

Didn't expect an End User License Agreement that big on a game like this, lol. Did you Copy and Past Apples

The EULA is for in case somewhere were to happen with the patcher or uninstaller, not the game itself. In case someone decides to install it to System32 or something stupid like that and then complains when the uninstaller deletes important system files. But no, I did no copy Apples. I hate Apple.

Apparently if you get stuck in a download/verification infinite loop on a single file, the best thing to do is power cycle your machine and wait a couple of days before trying again.  I finally got the game to work.

It's not the power cycle that fixed it, I had to fix the files and patch information on the server. IT's hard for me to test 100% of edge cases, so if it gets stuck hit me up on the discord so I can get it taken care of.

Is the launcher also for Android or just for computers?

I'm going to try, but I'm not making any promises. Android development is not my strong suit, and how the updater will have to work is going to be weird and probably hacky.

I'm sorry but this launcher is horrible. I had it running for over 3 hours when updating the game to the latest version and it was still on 6% when I got back. Then I downloaded the newest game version manually and it took me like 5 minutes to do what this launcher struggled for 3 hours to get 6% done... Unless I've missed something, there's 0 reason to download and use this launcher

The speed of the launcher is based on location to server (us based), internet connection, and cpu speed (for file hashing). I can install cor with the launcher in a little under 4 minutes. File integrity I can do in 1m55s  Every time I test I get at least 200mb/s out of my 400mb internet.

The majority of the first 30% is all files bundled with the installer, the main downloading comes ~34% when it has to download a little over 4GB of the actual game files. Either you have a very weak cpu, or the install is stuck in which case send me the log and I can take a look at it.

Sounds like poor little Australians like me are gonna have to just stick to usual install process then

Possibly. Not everyone has had poor download speeds when they are on the opposite side of the world from the server. I do have a GPU version of the patcher I am testing which should do the file hashing faster on people who have dedicated gpu's. That will at least speed up part of the process. Looking into compression as well so the download size is smaller, although I'm not sure how much more rpa files can be compressed.

Well let's hope all goes well then

2h of patching still at 35%

it is slowly (i mean slowllyyyyy) moving forward though

the last 60% finished in the next hour

30-35% is where it downloads the majority of the 4.5gb, so that will take the longest. I've been getting occasional reports of it running slow, but every time I test I get at least 200mb/s out of my 400mb internet. Hopefully I can figure out what's happening and fix it before 0.60.

i want to mention that my internet aint slow (not as fast as yours  but still) thats why the 3 h download surprised me

Part of it is also your cpu speed, and distance from the server (US based). So if you have a slow cpu it can slow the download. I have a GPU version I am testing to see if that will improve the performance.

ahhh im in Eu so

Tried to run the launcher, sadly it worked to a point. it finished the creation then patch.exe missing or corrupted, and various other patches missing. got to the point it just stopped responding. went to end the task and my computer crashed (blue screen). had to erase the launcher and all software for it.  Ill try again when a new version is launched!

The patch.exe is bundled in the installer, so it shouldn't be missing or corrupted. It needs to download the game files, the installer alone is not the entire game. Never heard of it blue screening before. I've forced closed it many times. If you want to make a debug log I can take a look and see if its stuck or if the download is going slow.

and that is where it gets weird! the blue screen usually displays a code as to why it happened. it didnt, and it was quicker to recover then most crashes. ran my "whocrashed" app. and some reason there was no information at all like the crash never happened.  I always have a resource monitor open and while the errors during install kept popping up the CPU and RAM kept climbing up until the program stopped responding. not sure what really happened.

CPU and Ram hit 100 when the program stopped and thats when it crashed, which is weird because my usage is usually 20 percent on both during gaming

I've never heard anything like that. Was it the patch.exe that was using all the cpu and ram?

I was watching the processes on my task manager (I always keep it up), odd ball thing is when the CPU spiked to full, so did the RAM, and the only process that was running was the Launcher.  so as I said, it was extremely odd.  I did a process of elimination tracking everything down, found nothing. reloaded the launcher and unzipped the file and proceeded.  launcher did its task with a few errors and then came to the patch.exe missing, launcher froze again and my CPU and RAM spiked.  I went to shut it all down and blue screened again.  WHOCRASH didnt catch it again.  its very perplexing

I don't even have the slightest clue as to what could be causing that. If you could get a few screenshots or even better a video of it happening.

is there an android version planned?

I'm going to try, but I'm not making any promises. Android development is not my strong suit, and how the updater will have to work is going to be weird and probably hacky.

Is it possible to make the updater within the game itself? for some reason thats what i was expecting was the updater baked into the game

Since its a renpy game all the executable does is call various renpy labels and functions. If it was a compiled game made in something like unity or unreal, then it could be baked into the application itself. The only way that might be possible is if the updater was an exe that could then itself act as a renpy game, but I'm not sure that is possible.

damn, that's something!!!! I hope for the other games to do this as well. <3
